Sociosexual
Pronunciation:
[ˈsoʊsioʊ ˈsekSHo͞oəl]
Definition
A type of sexual orientation which is characterized by the eagerness to engage in sexual activity outside of a committed and established relationship.
A relatively new term, sociolsexual (and sociosexuality) is the psychological term for promiscuity and can be used to describe the level in which someone is likely to seek sexual encounters outside of their current relationship.
The origin of the name comes from the scientific definition for ‘socio’ which means relating/pertaining to society or the wider community, and ‘sexual’ which refers to a physical attraction or intimate physical contact between individuals.
Example
“Most of my friends think I’m a serial cheater, little do they know, I’m just a sociosexual.”
