Sapiosexual
Pronunciation:
[Sapiō ˈsekSH(o͞o)əl]
Definition
Describes a sexual preference in which a person experiences a greater level of attraction towards intelligence as opposed to any other quality/feature. A true Sapiosexual can have such a strong attraction to intellect that it can be irrespective of gender and/or physical attractiveness.
Ironically, when the word ‘Sapiosexual’ is broken down into latin derivatives it does not translate into its modern definition of “an attraction to intelligence”. The exact origin of this word is unclear, but it is probable that the term stems from modern dating culture. Meaning that someone calling themselves a Sapiosexual, is not well-researched enough to know that the word does not mean what they think it means.
Example
Brittany: “I want people to know that I value intelligence, so I listed myself as a Sapiosexual on that new dating site.”
Anna: “What does that mean?”
Brittany: “I think it means that I am more attracted to intelligence than good looks.”
