What is Nonbinary?

Another term to describe someone who is genderqueer. Nonbinary is an umbrella term for anyone who does not exclusively identify with the traditional male/female or masculine/feminine binary.

Like genderqueer, someone with a nonbinary gender can be androgynous, intergender, or have a nonexistent/neutral gender identity.

Example of Nonbinary

Becky: “Are you a guy or a girl? You look like a female, but sometimes you dress and act like a male?”
Nicky: “I’m neither, I’m nonbinary.”
Becky: “Oh, nice! Thanks for explaining that to me!”
