Genderqueer

Pronunciation:

[ˈjendər kwi(ə)r]

What is Genderqueer?

The term used to describe an individual or a group who refuses to subscribe to a traditional gender identity and feels that his/her/their gender does not fit within the social gender binary (male & female). Genderqueer is also known as non-binary or gender-expansive.

Someone who is genderqueer can identify as both male and female or will not identify with having any gender.

Instead of ‘he’ or ‘she’, a genderqueer person can be referenced as ‘ze’.

GQ is a commonly used acronym for the term Genderqueer.
