Haunting

Pronunciation:

[ˈhɔntɪŋ]

Definition

Haunting is closely related to ghosting, and describes the situation in which someone whom you thought was out of your life, begins trying to creep back in. Typically Haunting occurs when someone who ghosted you has returned. Ghosting is the process of starting a relationship and then cutting off all contact without so much as a warning. Conversely, haunting takes place after the cold break and manifests as indirectly interacting with someone via social media. Haunting can be in the form of liking or sharing people’s posts and photos, but there is never any direct contact.

Example

Luke had not talked to Clare for months, but he often thought about getting back in touch. He would take any opportunity to like pictures of her or posts that she liked. He was aware that Clare and her friends knew he had ghosted her, so he figured slowly entering her social circle was the best way of establishing a new relationship.
